
Concept & Vision
The Explorer Gift Guide was a groundbreaking collaboration between National Geographic’s Editorial, Sales & Innovation, and Special Projects teams, designed as an interactive holiday catalog. The concept was to bring National Geographic’s rich, diverse product offerings to life in an engaging, digital format that allowed users to explore and purchase products both online and in-store. The vision was to enhance the user experience with the first-ever social media sharing functionality for a Nat Geo digital product, seamlessly integrating e-commerce and social engagement.
Design
Riot of Colors played a key role in the UI/UX design and microsite development for this project. The design focused on creating a visually appealing, easy-to-navigate platform that captured the essence of National Geographic’s brand while providing a smooth, intuitive shopping experience. The microsite was structured to showcase a curated selection of products, integrating social sharing features to encourage user interaction and amplify the holiday spirit.
Challenges
One of the key challenges was creating a digital experience that was both engaging and seamless while maintaining the high standards of National Geographic’s branding. Developing the social media sharing functionality required careful integration with existing platforms to ensure a smooth, user-friendly interface. Additionally, balancing the design aesthetics with the technical requirements of an e-commerce platform posed its own set of challenges, which Riot of Colors tackled through thoughtful design solutions.
